Little Black Bird is located at 108 Market Street South, Hastings. With a focus on creating good, honest food, using fresh, local ingredients Little Black Bird has a tonne of 5-star reviews on Facebook and around the web singing the praises of the food and the atmosphere.
We sat down with Sarah Cruse, one of the General Managers, to discuss Little Black Bird’s support for Nourished for Nil.
How did you find out about Nourished for Nil?
One of Nourished for Nil’s founders, Christina, came in to tell us about what Nourished for Nil was hoping to achieve in the community.
Where did surplus food go before you began donating to Nourished for Nil?
We threw some away and staff took some home at the end of the day.
What makes the Nourished for Nil cause so appealing to you?
We make everything fresh every day, so if something isn’t used on the day it’s made, it’s discarded. I hate waste, so it’s great to no longer be throwing the food away. It’s also good to be feeding people who need food.
How often do you donate to Nourished for Nil?
Daily, Monday – Friday.
What types of food are you donating?
Generally, cabinet food, so sandwiches, wraps, donuts, vege rolls and salads. We also provide a catering service where we pick up any leftovers, so these are donated when we have them too.
What works well with the Nourished for Nil donation process for you?
We don’t have to do anything, the volunteers simply come and pick it up.
What would you say to other sponsors considering donating to Nourished for Nil?
Do it! There’s no reason not to.
Do you have any other comments?
It’s a great simple process. The volunteers are always so friendly and appreciative.
